Animal Abuse in Greece is becoming a Criminal Offence

Popular

Arrests and Criminal Offence for those who abuse animals, according to a new law of the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office which, following the recent incidents of violence and torture of animals, calls for strict observance of the law. The Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court Olga Smyrlis, in the new law, calls the District Attorneys from all over the country to take immediate action and to follow the same procedure, underlining once again the need for immediate supervision for the enforcement of the law in any case of abuse and cruel behaviour of animals.

However, recent cases of animal abuse have led the Minister responsible, Makis Vorides, to announce a tightening of the legislation by converting the offence of animal abuse from a misdemeanour to a felony.
